Photography, memory and contemporary art take centre stage throughout November and December, offering a different way to explore Marbella.

Talking about Marbella almost inevitably leads to Puerto Banús, its beaches, its cuisine, its grand hotels or the residential appeal of one of the Mediterranean’s most recognisable destinations.

However, there is another side to Marbella that does not always feature prominently in the tourist narrative.

A city with museums, galleries, exhibitions, creative spaces and a cultural programme that gives you reasons to return even after the summer is over.

According to , the official programme this autumn the local council is keeping several exhibitions open for weeks or even months. Some will run until November; others will continue into December. This extended duration achieves something important: it ensures that culture ceases to be merely a one-off event and instead becomes part of the city’s everyday experience.

Dalí and the art of turning an idea into an object

The photography exhibition 15 November 2026, the exhibition Dalí – Ten Recipes for Immortality, remains open in Marbella, linked to one of Salvador Dalí’s most unique published works.

The exhibition forms part of the programme for the Museum of Contemporary Spanish Printmaking, an institution that brings a cultural dimension to Marbella which is very different from the images usually used to promote the destination. The municipal programme lists the exhibition as running from late May until mid-November.

The Museum of Contemporary Spanish Printmaking is hosting the exhibition ‘Dalí: Ten Recipes for Immortality’. Visiting an exhibition of this kind offers a different perspective on Marbella: that of a city which also makes room for modern and contemporary art.

Inhabiting the Roots: an exhibition running until the end of December

One of the longest-running exhibitions is Living in Raíces, open until 27 December.

Marbella’s tourism programme presents it as a sensory exhibition, a definition that already points towards an experience different from the conventional contemplation of a work of art.

The title itself also raises a particularly interesting question in a destination such as Marbella.

What does it mean to have roots in a city characterised precisely by the constant influx of people from elsewhere?

Marbella is a permanent home for people of many different nationalities, a holiday destination for just as many, and a meeting place for people from diverse backgrounds. An exhibition exploring the theme of roots can thus take on a particularly thought-provoking meaning.

Culture has this ability: to take seemingly simple concepts — belonging, memory, home — and force us to look at them from a different perspective.

‘Inhabiting the Roots’, a sensory exhibition at the Ralli Museum in Marbella. It can also involve engaging with the creative work taking place right now.

And in a city such as Marbella, which is so closely associated with a particular image abroad, incorporating new perspectives is particularly valuable.

Joël Mestre and the power of the galleries

Marbella’s cultural life is not confined solely to public institutions.

The gallery Yusto/Giner is hosting until 20 November the solo exhibition Mast, sail and halyard, by Joël Mestre. The exhibition is one of the cultural events featured on Marbella Tourism’s official programme for this autumn.

Private galleries play an important role within the cultural ecosystem of any city. Marbella’s cultural scene this autumn is also shaped by its galleries, museums and spaces dedicated to contemporary art.

They enable people to discover artists, engage with less institutional forms of expression and create networks that complement the programmes of museums and public centres.

From a tourism perspective, they also offer an interesting advantage: they allow you to create different itineraries.

Visitors who are already familiar with a destination’s main monuments or attractions may discover, in these places, a side of Marbella that is less obvious, one that is closer to those who live and create there.

Ralli Museum: a cultural journey running until December

Another of Marbella’s great cultural assets is the Ralli Museum, whose programme runs until 12 December according to the official programme from Turismo Marbella.

The museum forms part of an international network dedicated specifically to contemporary Latin American and European art, and provides the city with a cultural connection that is particularly in keeping with its cosmopolitan character.

For decades, Marbella has welcomed residents and visitors from many different countries. This diversity finds a natural complement in cultural venues such as the Ralli.

The internationalisation of a destination should not be measured solely by the number of nationalities that visit it.

It can also be measured by its ability to facilitate the circulation of ideas, artists and cultural expressions from different places.

Photography that offers a different perspective on everyday life

The photography exhibition WHIMS by Paloma Biyú, also remains open until 30 October.

Although it runs for a shorter period than the other exhibitions in this selection, the photography exhibition brings a different voice to Marbella’s cultural autumn and enriches a programme that brings together painting, printmaking, contemporary art and multidisciplinary projects.

Photography is about making choices.

Deciding what is worth observing, what we frame and what we leave out.

Perhaps that is why photography is particularly well suited to discussing tourist destinations: cities that millions of people come to know through images that are carefully selected and repeated until they shape a particular perception.

Looking for other images also means discovering other cities within the same city.

Culture all year round

The Marbella Tourist Board is drawing up a a monthly cultural programme aimed at both residents and visitors, which brings together exhibitions, concerts, festivals and a wide range of other activities.

That detail is more important than it might seem.

For a long time, culture was viewed in many destinations primarily as a complement to the tourist offering. This autumn’s “Cultural Marbella” initiative confirms that the city has plenty to offer to attract visitors even outside the peak season.

Nowadays, the relationship can also be understood the other way round: culture can be one of the reasons for travelling.

A temporary exhibition, a festival, a theatre performance or a concert provide reasons to return to a familiar city and help spread tourist activity over more months of the year.

In Marbella, where tourism plays a significant role, a continuous programme of cultural events also helps to broaden perceptions of the destination.

Cultural Marbella this autumn: a city to see in a different light

Tourist towns run the risk of becoming prisoners of their own image.

The more well-known a destination is, the harder it is to show what lies beyond the postcard image.

Marbella has one of the strongest tourism brands on the Costa del Sol. That is precisely why it is worth looking beyond it.

Plaza de los Naranjos, one of the most iconic spots in Marbella’s historic centre.
