La Cubana is coming to the Teatro del Soho CaixaBank for the first time with My cousin\u2019s cooking<\/em>, a comedy that blends gastronomy, humour, music, audience participation and the company\u2019s instantly recognisable theatrical style. The show will run in M\u00e1laga from 25 November to 15 December 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gastronomy has become one of the great showcases of our time.<\/p>\n

We eat, take photos, share, recommend, rate and turn every culinary experience into a little public display.<\/p>\n

La Cubana has decided to bring precisely that obsession to the theatre.<\/p>\n

From 25 November to 15 December<\/strong>, the CaixaBank Soho Theatre will host My cousin\u2019s cooking<\/em>, a production in which the world of gastronomy serves as a starting point for showcasing humour, music, rhythm, colour, surprises and audience participation.<\/p>\n

A kitchen where nothing is what it seems<\/h2>\n

The story revolves around Brigitte Ravent\u00f3s<\/strong>, a Catalan chef of international renown, owner of a chain of restaurants and known for having made what is known as \u201cthe cuisine of emotions\u201d her hallmark.<\/p>\n

The character arrives at M\u00e1laga<\/a> who has a special connection with the city: she has been married for thirty years to Fernando Garc\u00eda, a man from M\u00e1laga with whom she shares part of her personal history.<\/p>\n

From that point on, *La Cubana* weaves a narrative in which reality and fiction begin to blur.<\/p>\n

In the story, Brigitte is awarded the medal of honorary citizen of M\u00e1laga and decides to reciprocate by launching her new international masterclass in the city, Feelings simmering away<\/em>. But, as is almost always the case with La Cubana, what is obvious never turns out to be exactly what it seems.<\/p>\n

Cuisine turned into a spectacle<\/h2>\n

The company uses cooking as a pretext to poke fun at a very recognisable trend: the need to turn gastronomy into a social showcase.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not enough just to eat well. It also seems necessary to show where we\u2019ve eaten, what we\u2019ve ordered and what the dish looked like.<\/p>\n

This relationship between gastronomy, image and public display becomes one of the driving forces behind the show.<\/p>\n

The Soho Theatre will be symbolically transformed into a huge kitchen, whilst, at the same time, the kitchen will be transformed into a theatre.<\/p>\n

*La Cubana* thus explores a highly topical theme: gastronomy as an experience, as a spectacle, and also as a backdrop to our own contradictions.<\/p>\n

The world of La Cubana<\/h2>\n

The company was founded in Sitges in 1980 by Vicky Plana and Jordi Mil\u00e1n and became a professional organisation three years later.<\/p>\n

Since then, he has developed a very distinctive approach to theatre, based on breaking down the barrier between the stage and the audience.<\/p>\n

Audience participation, surprise, music, colour and the incorporation of elements specific to each city are all part of a theatrical formula that the company has been developing over decades.<\/p>\n

In My cousin\u2019s cooking<\/em>, that local support is once again proving to be a significant factor.<\/p>\n

M\u00e1laga is not merely the venue where the performance takes place. It forms part of the theatrical performance itself.<\/p>\n

M\u00e1laga also takes centre stage<\/h2>\n

One of the most interesting aspects of the proposal is precisely this relationship with the city.<\/p>\n

The story incorporates local references and establishes a direct link between the main character and M\u00e1laga.<\/p>\n

This technique enables the show to engage with the audience in a different way.<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t simply a production that visits a city as part of a tour. The city becomes part of the narrative.<\/p>\n

And in a company such as La Cubana, which is accustomed to blurring the line between fiction and reality, this incorporation of the surroundings becomes an essential part of the experience.<\/p>\n

From 25 November to 15 December<\/h2>\n

My cousin\u2019s cooking<\/em> It will run at the CaixaBank Soho Theatre for three weeks.<\/p>\n

The usual functions will be the Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8.00 pm<\/strong>, Fridays and Saturdays at 5.00 pm and 9.00 pm<\/strong> y Sundays at 5.00 pm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In addition, there will be special performances on the following days: 4, 7, 8, 14 and 15 December<\/strong>. The show lasts approximately 130 minutes without a break<\/strong> and is suitable for all audiences.<\/p>\n

The arrival of La Cubana thus adds a new event to M\u00e1laga\u2019s cultural programme in the weeks leading up to Christmas.<\/p>\n

And it does so using a formula that is difficult to categorise.<\/p>\n

Because here, gastronomy is theatre. Theatre becomes cuisine. And the audience inevitably ends up becoming part of the menu.<\/p>\n
